Tissue paper, gesso and liquid watercolor on wood panels.
I was inspired by the materials and how the three mediums of fine artists' tissue, watercolor which tends towards transparent with water, and the opacity and thickness of gesso played together.
A fascination with Goya and his insanity/lead poising from painting with his hands led to my doing the same. The insanity would stop once he was in an asylum, i.e, stopped using lead-based white paint. Int he case of Goya, once the paint cleared out of his system, he would be fine and return to his studio, until the lead would seep into his veins once more. In my case, I used water based paints and kept my sanity in the process of creating this series.
